We had our doubts that the conference theme – ‘Restoring the trust’ - would offer a broad enough palette to make the content of the conference interesting. However we were pleasantly surprised – the speakers were informative with plenty of ideas that we could take away and apply to our Project Management and consulting practice.
Developing and retaining our consultants is a key to our ongoing business success and ensures that we can continue to deliver you with the best in Project Management consultancy. When we are working with you it is important that we are treated as a trusted advisor – so the conference theme was a great reminder of the importance of this to our business.
The whole conference was a great networking opportunity. HR people understand and make great networkers and we really enjoyed the welcome reception at Dockside… perhaps a little too much!
People we spoke to were interested to learn what we do here at BPX, could see the value we would add and wanted to know more.
What did you think about the challenge made by Richard Rudman, LFHRINZ, to HR practitioners? Have HR practitioners become “self oriented” setting the agenda for HR rather than doing what the business wants? Are HR practitioners more concerned with position and power than influence and contribution?
Excerpt from Richard’s paper:
“… a few months after being head-hunted to set up the personnel function for a fast-growing financial services company, the General Manager (we didn't call them Chief Executive Officers in those days) stuck his head in my door late one afternoon. "Got a moment?” he asked, "Not really", I said, "I'm pretty busy", "Bugger", he said, "you're always busy — doing what you think is important, not what we hired you to do"…”
